Vietnam’s unique water puppets won the Cuban audience’s hearts
after a special show at the Carpa Trompoloco Circus in Havana from Mar. 23-25.
The performance, by artists from the Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre, featured
distinctive activities of Vietnamese people such as dragon dancing, buffalo
fighting, fishing and rice harvest.
A skillful combination of folk music and water puppets supported by light effect
in the first ever show in the Caribbean country helped Cuban people gain a
deeper insight into Vietnam’s culture and folk arts.
According to Cuban Deputy Culture Minister Fernando Rojas, the performance was
another expression of traditional friendship between Vietnamese and Cuban
peoples.
Head of the Vietnamese artist troupe Tran Quoc Chiem said he was impressed by
Cuban people’s sentiments to the puppeteers in particular and to Vietnamese
people in general.
He said he hoped to bring the show back to Cuban people in various localities as
soon as possible.
