Over VND5.1 trillion (US$242 million) will be injected into
building Quang Ninh International Airport in northeastern Van Don Island
District.
The airport, covering 285 ha in Doan Ket Commune, will allow operation of
long-range and wide-body Boeing 777s.
By 2020, the airport will have at least for aprons and be able to handle 2
million passengers and 10,000 tonnes of goods every year. By 2030, it will be
expanded with seven aprons and be able to handle 5 million passengers and 30,000
tonnes of good per year.
The first phase will cost VND3.5 trillion (US$160 million), nearly two thirds of
the total investment.
The PM has approved to undertake the project under a BOT
(build-operate-transfer) model.
The airport is expected to spur socioeconomic development in the northern
province.
